You are probably like me and can spot a “Tire Kicker” a mile away. For you people not in the auto industry, a tire kicker is a waste of time customer that has no intention of buying a car.
The best way to handle a tire kicker is through casual conversation. If it is a slow day, take the time and talk to the tire kicker. Try to get away from talking about cars and trucks and talk about their hot buttons…family, hobbies, tractor pulling, whatever it is.
If you can get past the hard outer shell, you have the opportunity to turn this tire kicker into a buyer…not right away, but next time the need a vehicle.
Make sure that tire kicker has at least one business card when they leave the lot. They probably won’t give you a phone number, but it can’t hurt to ask.
Don’t pressure the tire kicker, but treat him with respect and hopefully he’ll return the favor when he is in the market.
