What exactly is a 30 second elevator speech? This is the 30 seconds that you have to impress someone enough to want to do business with you.
It is called an elevator speech because when in an elevator you don’t have much time, approximately 30 seconds, and then the client is out the door never to be seen again.
Most elevator speeches should actually only be about 4 sentences long and take about 15 seconds to deliver. You want people to be so interested that they want more information.
You never want to say anything negative about you or your business in your elevator speech, and you don’t want to use any industry jargon or terms not common to the everday customer.
Avoid terms that talk down to the person you are giving your elevator speech to. Avoid things your company cannot do, or chooses not to do.
Here is an example of an elevator speech:
I’m Brandon Hopkins, owner of Vooed Business Marketing. We provide free marketing tips and resources to help businesses all around the world increase profits and grow their customer base.
Simple and sweet. To make it more intriguing, I would add a line like, “We help businesses established businesses reach more markets, and help new businesses reach every market.”
Practice your speech in the mirror and in front of co-workers to get it just right. Then write it down and practice until you have it memorized.
With a short elevator speech, you are sure to grab more prospects, have the opportunity to distribute a business card and make a great networking contact.
